Seth Stephens-Davidowitz is writing about something I find intriguing and has a mind that I find not unlike mine - unusual points of view. To the extreme. Also, I am - like him - a very big fan of Steven Pinker. In his book he makes some very good observations, BUT:Unlike S. Pinker I do not get the data and statistics behind his findings. Which I found to be a bit of a let-down.I do admire Buffett, Gates, Zuckerberg. But how do they stack up against others who attended prestigious colleges? Why do I not get a comparison between them? The same applies for other facts given in the book. The data behind his findings remain a mystery. The other thing I disliked a bit is the feeling that the book was written after a big data analysis. Similar to the squirrel getting a bigger role after the movie studios found out that he got a lot sympathy from the audience (Ice Age). That's why I gave it a three star rating rather than the five stars it deserves.
Very Good Look into the Potential of Sarah science. Does a good Job to describe complex studies in a comprihensible and entertainment way.
Very entertaining book applying a new way to look at things. Big datais a buzzword and here it comes to life using Google analytics. Most examples/findings are just of entertaining nature and dont tell you much but they show easily the application of analytics on big data.I find this way more believable than pseudo scientific experiments with a handful of students in a lab. We might need to revisit what we think is science and what not
I was very pleased with this book that covers new research, partially from the author's Ph.D. theses, that I found informative and at times surprising. As a researcher I have conducted surveys myself and the notion that these miss part of the story, even when they are anonymous, seems plausible to me. I consumed the book in 2 days.
